Prison time for web comic?

This guy is hilarious. Where's our world heading today when media and political figures can take a guy as this seriously? Jack isn't just a living exclamation mark, he's like "THE JUDGEMENT DAY IS NEAR, BAN DOOM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!".

He was even featured on CNN for a couple of days ago, to talk about Midway's new football game. One of his quotes was "The NFL wouldn't allow it's name to be used, so that tells you something.". As probably almost every gamer knows, EA has licensed the rights to use NFL names in games and Midway's games uses this license through EA, so that tells you something. How come a man that got no clue about the games get to talk about them as such a broadly known channel as CNN?

Also, here's the donation check the Penny-arcade guys sent, the check that Jack refused to send because it was just "satire".

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

You know that saying about hurting the ones you love? Well it works both ways... it seems like Jack Thompson manage to ruin his reputation and credibility even more by backing up on his word for the $10,000 donation to whoever would create his game. After several submitted games and mods, he deemed that it was all a obvious satire and never intended as a real proposal.

'The same day he promised to donate the money in case someone would make a game with his story, I did this, and emailed it to him: Jack Thompson game He replied to me about how it would have to be a game made by a professional game company, and not a "gamer in a basement", even though that was not a requirement in his original promise. I told him I am the owner of a registered game developement company, and did the game during my coffee break, and that all his criteria had been met now [other than that the game would have to be released in 2006, but that would be just a matter of waiting]. He simply just replied with "You can't produce a full-blown commerical game on your coffee break. get lost.".'

The authors of the web comic Penny-arcade decided to donate $10,000 out of their own pocket to Entertainment Software Association Foundation just to prove that they are bigger men than Thompson will ever be, and they made the donation in his name. All work and no play, that's Jack, he doesn't even try the games, he's just working so he can get them banned, without knowing what he wants to prohibit.

Jack Thompson, a sub-machine gun?

A week ago, Jack Thompson wrote a open-letter to the industry called A modest video game proposal, requesting that they (we?) should "Target yourselves as you target others. I dare you.". Basicly in this letter he says that he will give $10,000 in charity if any video game company creates and publish the game that he suggests;

"Osaki Kim is the father of a high school boy beaten to death with a baseball bat by a 14-year-old gamer. The killer obsessively played a violent video game in which one of the favored ways of killing is with a bat."

Osaki then sets out on a crusade of vengeance to kill Paula Eibel the fictionous CEO of Take This (very similiar to Paul Eibeler, the CEO of the real company called Take Two) and then further to the E3 expo to kill every developer that is attending there (including those who do non-violent games?).

Now Jack Thompsons credibility seems to be in danger when National Institute on Media & Family writes another open-letter where they clearly states that they got no connection with Jack Thompson and don't support his kind of approaches, yet they even think he's making a bad name of them. Persuading the same goals, doesn't mean that they want to do it by the same means.

A fun little note is that Jack Thompson actually called one of the creators of Penny-arcade web comic, after they sent him a mail;

"10 grand is pretty weak man. Through our charity www.childsplaycharity.org gamers have given over half a million dollars in toys and cash to children’s hospitals all over the country."

Jack response was by personally calling up Gabe and screaming at him on the phone, threating him with a lawsuit.
