Cave Story being ported to the Nintendo DS

"Cave Story is a freeware sidescrolling action/adventure/platformer title with leanings towards Wonderboy and recent sidescrolling Castlevania titles. You control a little amnesiac who runs around helping out these rabbit-ish creatures called Mimigas while trying to find your way out of the giant cave inside the floating island which makes up the game´s setting."

Lumines hack equal increased sales

Since a exploit was found in Lumines that allowded it to run homebrew software, the sales of the game greatly increased. Soon after the discovery, the same hacker released a firmware downgrader through the same exploit, and allowing you to use a firmware without the homebrew restriction that Sony implemented in the later firmwares.

Maybe it wouldn't be such a waste to get one of those PSPs after all?

Die Hard 4.0 is awsome!

Even though McClane doesn't walk barefooted across broken glass, and that I'm not a big fan of the setting that's Washington D.C., the movie sure do deserve its current score of 8.4 on IMDB. It being about cyber warfare doesn't really lower my opinion about it either :)

Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses review

"Barbie stars as a beautiful princess named Genevieve with eleven sisters, Ashlyn, Blair, Courtney, Delia, Edeline, Fallon, Hadley, Isla, Janessa, Kathleen and Lacey, who all love to dance, along with their own personal likes and interests. They all live in a beautiful castle with their widowed father, King Randolph.

Disheartened by his daughters' unladylike behavior and his inability to understand them, the King summons his cousin, Duchess Rowena to help him with their upbringing. Rowena strips the castle of all fun: no color, singing, playing, or dancing. She forces the princesses to practice "proper" behavior"
Alright, so this game is about some old geezer, who apperantly had a little bit too good of a time with some fine lady, that caused him to become a father of twelve (!!!) daughters, and the mother must've died from all the action.

Obviously he wasn't the one who wanted any childs to begin with, and since his wife died, he's stuck with these twelve kids he doesn't have any efforts to raise up or teach any manners.

Things becomes a bit problematic when they're becoming annoying teenagers and the servants of the castle seemingly quit in rejection of having to babysit the brats all the time. So the King decides to call his cousin Duchess Rowena and tries to convince here to come over and raise them for him.

So this is the lead character of the game, who seems to be the mentally challenged one of all the twelve kids. You'll notice immediately that something is wrong in her nut, since the first thing that happends is that she starts talking with the castle's cat.

Judging from the Kings past behvaiour, I think I might know what he have done with his cousin that might've tired him out enough so that he completly starts ignoring his mentally challenged daughter. Might be the same way he convinced his cousin to come over aswell.

So this delusional princess can't immediately spot her sisters, and her imaginative conversation with the cat makes her think that Rowena must've taken them away somewhere. Rowena is of course a bad person in this fictionous world, who comes here and tires out her father so, and try teaching them some behaviour and manners.

Yes, the bedroom, that must be the perfect hiding spot. Rowena would never think about to look there if she were truly after this retarded child. So, from here she starts running around in the castle aimlessly, and imagines huge pits everywhere, and a sole vase trying to fall down on her over and over again.

Since the game don't have saving function, you need to remember this passwords. Cat, cat, dance shoes and charming guy. Got it!

Even more proof of how serious this girls brain damage might be. She don't recognize this pavilion that's directly connected with her bedroom, and she completly forgot what she was told to do just a minute ago (run and hide). Also, she doesn't seem to remember the castle itself at all, even though she's supposedly lived there her entire life.

She walks out of the first door and suddenly finds herself in the woods, which hints at she from now and then gets memory blackouts. So just a little bit into these woods she finds her three irresponsible little sisters playing around.

They're probably allowded to play around in the dirty woods just outside of the castle, and they don't want their mentally ill sister to valse around and telling their dad about it. They come up with this unbelievable lie, but its ok, since they know their handicapped sister will believe in anything.

Yes, it's likely that Rowena would carry three little brats into the woods, and just drop them there. They can probably see the castle from there and go back if they need to. So now the retard asks for their dancing shoes. Can't understand why since they must be several sizes to small anyway, and I don't understand what she's going to do with three pairs of them.

Seeing an opening to send their sister away, they encourage her and give her a butterfly net aswell, which might come in handy if she's going to kill the evil Rowena. Obviously the retarded princess doesn't know how to use one, so instead of capture things she find throughout the wood, she whack them with it, effectivly killing any bird or bug that might come in the way of her rampage.

That was about when I had enough. Seemingly, you run around and finds more of these bastards and they'll supposedly give her more useless stuff that makes her believe she can jump higher or things like that. It's also impossible to die in the game. All in all, if you're a seven year old girl who haven't played games before, this might be something for you!

(A little bit wordy review that I did last night can be found here. Warning for strong language.)

Hitman Trilogy to be released in EU tomorrow!

Available for PC and PS2, the Hitman Trilogy will be released in Europe tomorrow. Although, the package seems to be lacking the first hitman game 'Hitman: Codename 47', it seems like a really good collection for any sneak/stealth'em up fans. A release date for the US is yet to be announced.

The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R

Would you tackle a project of the same magnitude again?

Anton Bolshakov: Yes, the team has successfully completed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. To us it is a mountain peak climbed. Now the team is well-built and professional. Through the development process we worked out proper management, planning and projecting. Now we can make, and do make, no less complex projects, however with much more predictably in terms of timing.

What's in the pipeline for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? Is it the sort of game you can release expansions or content updates for, say new multiplayer maps, or will you just be fixing bugs?

Anton Bolshakov: We're preparing some next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. announcements for the upcoming E3. We will be happy to share all the interesting details during the E3 in July.

To let you know, we have already released the MP SDK and now work on SP SDK. We do a lot to improve the MP part, such as optimising the traffic, remote control function, anti-cheating... We're preparing a big update with a new game mode - Freeplay, with no story tasks, including only the A-life driven ones, and where the goal is to gain ranks, climb up in rankings, so as to become the best s.t.a.l.k.e.r. in the Zone.

Also we keep fixing the bugs found and release patches.
A very good interview which includes a bit of post mortem in it.

Fallout 3 details emerge

As previously predicted, the game will be based on a modified version of the Oblivion engine (which in turn is a customized version of the Gamebryo engine middleware). Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that they'll keep several parts of Fallout-series gameplay mechanics and even feature a battle system where you can pause time and spend action points on your moves.

But you'll be able to play the game in realtime for those who prefer that, and since the game is based on the Oblivion engine, I wouldn't be suprised if you can zoom into first-person. Bethesda said they would improve the third-person camera aswell, after recieving alot of negative feedback for it after Oblivion.

There target system will stay in tact from the franchise, with specific body parts that can be shot at and injure, and the same thing can happen to you aswell. There's going to be a karma system, and the game will feature between 9 to 12 different endings.

The health system will get a overhaul, and Bethesda will introduce a new system for radiation where you need to measure how much radiation it's in the water or other consumables. You'll also be able to sneak or talk your way through the game instead of just killing everything you see :)
Fallout 3 kicks off with your birth and your mother's death in a vault hospital. This is where you get to create you character as your father (voiced by Liam Neeson) hands you over to the DNA analyser, before removing his mask to reveal similar traits to the ones you picked.

BioWare MMO due 2009 and some tech info

StreamBase's Stream Processing Engine is able to analyze in optimum cases up to 350,000 messages per second. Its StreamSQL can slice and dice message streams into timeframes or event-related sections for particular views and analysis.

BioWare is using the StreamBase Processing Engine as its platform for tracking players' actions and movements. "It will be embedded in the foundation of the game platform" and will "monitor and maintain the status of all players. Each player's movements and actions need to be tracked."

BioWare has not announced the name or described the nature of its online game, but Dalton said it will be launched in 2009. Dalton said his firm wants to do more than match the state of the art represented by such online games as World of Warcraft. He expects the complex event processing built into his firm's game to allow richer role playing and interactions between players.

When we're to expect to update wasn't revealed, but speaking about the future of the game Bolshakov did mention too that, now the multiplayer SDK for the game has been released, the developer's working on getting the single-player SDK out the door. So take note, mod creators.

GSC of course recently let slip that it's to make some S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related announcements at this year's E3.

Electronic Arts to release games for Macintosh

I have always loathed Macs. They give me the eeries, and I've never really trusted these one buttoned contraptions. How are you supposed to bring up the context menu if you can't right-click?

Anyhow, it can't be worse than Windows Vista, and what might've been bothering me the most about Macs is the lack of games (same for Linux), but EA seems to want to redeem that problem.

Announcing today (yesterday?) that they're going to be releasing games for Macs, starting off with Need for Speed: Carbon, Battlefield 2142, Command & Conquer 3, and in July, Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix. Of course the usual crop (crap?) of sport games will follow later this year.

These, along with id softwares upcoming game, might actually influence more developers to take the step over to the otherside. Although, when I think about it, id software have always been releasing their games for Macs...
Electronic Arts to bring "games" to Mac

id Tech 5 premiered on a Mac

"So the last couple of years at iD we've been working in secrecy on next-gen tech and a game for it... this is the first time we're showing anything we've done on it publicly."

"What we've got here is the entire world with unique textures, 20GB of textures covering this track. They can go in and look at the world and, say, change the color of the mountaintop, or carve their name into the rock. They can change as much as they want on surfaces with no impact on the game."
The ground breaking technology unveiled today will power id's new internally developed game and will be available for licensing to third parties.

The new id rendering technology practically eliminates the texture memory constraints typically placed on artists and designers and allows for the unique customization of the entire game world at the pixel level, delivering virtually unlimited visual fidelity.

Combined with a powerful new suite of tools designed to specifically facilitate and accelerate this content creation process, id Tech 5™ will power games that contain vast outdoor landscapes that are completely unique to the horizon, yet have indoor environments with unprecedented artistic detail.
While shown for the very first time running in real time on a Mac, id Tech 5 additionally supports the Xbox 360 and Playstation3 console platforms as well as the PC, and will be available for licensing to developers and publishers interested in working with a truly next-generation rendering and game development solution.

id Software will be showing id Tech 5 to interested developers and publishers by appointment only at the E3 Media & Business Summit from July 11 - 13, 2007 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Companies interested in id Tech licensing information can visit www.idsoftware.com or email licensing@idsoftware.com with an E3 appointment request.
